The table below provides an overview of the Spanish indicative tenses including examples of the conjugation of -ar, -er and -ir verbs as well as some general usage rules for each tense.

In the exercises, you can practise the conjugation of different Spanish tenses.

Overview - All Tenses

-ar hablar		-er aprender		-ir vivir		usage
Presente (simple present)
hablo hablas habla hablamos habláis hablan		aprendo aprendes aprende aprendemos aprendéis aprenden		vivo vives vive vivimos vivís viven		action in the present action that started earlier and has lasted until the present future action (only with specific time designation)
Pretérito Perfecto (present perfect)
he has ha hemos habéis han	hablado	he has ha hemos habéis han	aprendido	he has ha hemos habéis han	vivido	completed action in a period of time that counts as part of the present (este semana) completed action that has an influence on the present
Pretérito Indefinido (simple past)
hablé hablaste habló hablamos hablasteis hablaron		aprendí aprendiste aprendió aprendimos aprendisteis aprendieron		viví viviste vivió vivimos vivisteis vivieron		completed action in the past without any influence on the present new action that interrupts an already-occurring action in the past
Pretérito Imperfecto (past progressive)
hablaba hablabas hablaba hablábamos hablabais hablaban		aprendía aprendías aprendía aprendíamos aprendíais aprendían		vivía vivías vivía vivíamos vivíais vivían		description of a situation in the past habitual action emphasis on the process of the action
Pretérito Pluscuamperfecto (past perfect)
había habías había habíamos habíais habían	hablado	había habías había habíamos habíais habían	aprendido	había habías había habíamos habíais habían	vivido	action that took place before another action in the past
Preterito Anterior (past anterior)
hube hubiste hubo hubimos hubisteis hubieron	hablado	hube hubiste hubo hubimos hubisteis hubieron	aprendido	hube hubiste hubo hubimos hubisteis hubieron	vivido	only used in literary language nowadays action that took place in the past immediately before another action
Futuro Imperfecto (future)
hablaré hablarás hablará hablaremos hablaréis hablarán		aprenderé aprenderás aprenderá aprenderemos aprenderéis aprenderán		viviré vivirás vivirá viviremos viviréis vivirán		action, condition in the future supposition about an action in the present or future
Futuro Perfecto (future perfect)
habré habrás habrá habremos habréis habrán	hablado	habré habrás habrá habremos habréis habrán	aprendido	habré habrás habrá habremos habréis habrán	vivido	supposition about a completed action action that will have been completed by a certain time in the future
Condicional Simple (conditional)
hablaría hablarías hablaría hablaríamos hablaríais hablarían		aprendería aprenderías aprendería aprenderíamos aprenderíais aprenderían		viviría vivirías viviría viviríamos viviríais vivirían		invitation, request, wish or suggestion probability/likelihood doubt in the past future action from a past viewpoint
Condicional Compuesto (conditional perfect)
habría habrías habría habríamos habríais habrían	hablado	habría habrías habría habríamos habríais habrían	aprendido	habría habrías habría habríamos habríais habrían	vivido	completed/finished invitation, request, wish or suggestion supposition in the past future actions from a past viewpoint
