Exercise B1

Construct adverbs from the following adjectives.

cierto  [certainly]|We take the feminine form of the adjective and add the ending mente.
especial  [especially]|If the adjective ends in e or a consonant, we simply add the ending mente.
fuerte  [energetically, loudly]|If the adjective ends in e or a consonant, we simply add the ending mente.
difícil  [with difficulty]|If the adjective ends in e or a consonant, we simply add the ending mente. If the adjective has an accent, this remains unchanged in the adverb.
cuidadoso  [carefully]|We take the feminine form of the adjective and add the ending mente.

Construct adverbs from the following adjectives and type them in.

  1. El perro ladra (constante)  .[The dog is always barking.]|If the adjective ends in e or a consonant, we simply add the ending mente.
  2. Lo he entendido todo (perfecto)  .[I understood everything perfectly.]|We take the feminine form of the adjective and add the ending mente.
  3. Defendieron su postura (firme y decidido)  .[They defended their position firmly and decidedly.]|We take the feminine form of the adjective and add the ending mente. If there are multiple adverbs in a row, we only add the ending mente to the last one.
  4. El gato se asomó (tímido)   por la puerta.[The cat timidly slipped out through the door.]|We take the feminine form of the adjective and add the ending mente. If the adjective has an accent, this remains unchanged in the adverb.
  5. Aquí (normal)   hace mucho frío.[It’s normally very cold here.]|If the adjective ends in e or a consonant, we simply add the ending mente.

Replace the adverb with another word, so that the meaning of the sentence remains the same.

  1. Ella se mueve elegantemente.
    → Ella se mueve con  .[She moves with elegance.]|con + noun| elegante → elegancia
  2. Nos trataron amablemente.
    → Nos trataron con  .[They treated us in a friendly manner.]|con + noun| amable → amabilidad
  3. Las matemáticas se pueden explicar fácilmente.
    → Las matemáticas se pueden explicar de forma  .[Mathematics can be explained in a simple manner.]|de forma + adjective
  4. Después de la reunión, todos se fueron silenciosamente.
    → Después de la reunión, todos se fueron en  .[After the meeting, everyone left in silence.]|en + noun|silencioso → silencio
  5. Hay que tratar a los animales respetuosamente.
    → Hay que tratar a los animales con  .[Animals must be treated with respect.]|con + noun|respetuoso → respeto
  6. Intento alimentarme siempre saludablemente.
    → Intento alimentarme siempre de manera  .[I try to always eat healthily.]|de manera + adjective
