Exercise A1

For each noun, write the plural form with its article.

  1. la mesa →  [the table → the tables]|Nouns that end with a vowel (a, e, i, o, u) usually just take an s in the plural.
  2. el diccionario →  [the dictionary → the dictionaries]|Nouns that end with a vowel (a, e, i, o, u) usually just take an s in the plural.
  3. el viernes →  [Friday → Fridays]|Nouns that end with s or an x do not take any extra plural ending.
  4. la nación →  [the nation → the nations]|Nouns that end with a consonant (n, l, r, …) take es as their plural ending.|Since the penultimate syllable is already stressed in words that end with an s, the accent is removed in the plural.
  5. el médico →  [the doctor → the doctors]|Nouns that end with a vowel (a, e, i, o, u) usually just take an s in the plural.|We keep the accent, because otherwise the penultimate syllable (the i) would be stressed.
  6. el coche →  [the car → the cars]|Nouns that end with a vowel (a, e, i, o, u) usually just take an s in the plural.
  7. la luz →  [the light → the lights]|When es is added, z becomes c.

Write the nouns in the plural.
