Descansando en el parque

«¡Qué día más precioso!», dijo la señora Pilar. «El sol brilla y los pájaros cantan. Hace demasiado buen tiempo como para quedarse en casa».

La señora Pilar está jubilada y vive en la gran ciudad de Madrid. Su piso está en una calle principal del centro, pero ella preferiría vivir en un lugar donde la vida no fuera tan anónima. Cerca de donde ella vive está el Parque del Retiro y la señora Pilar acude siempre a él cuando hace buen tiempo como hoy.

Allí siempre ocurre algo. En el parque hay corredores, ciclistas, gente paseando con sus perros o familias con niños jugando en el césped. Como la señora Pilar es muy extrovertida siempre conoce nueva gente y se encuentra con viejos conocidos con los que poder hablar.

En los caminos hay bancos para sentarse. Algunos están en el sol y otros a la sombra de los árboles. Como hoy no hace mucho calor, la señora Pilar se ha sentado en un banco al sol entre dos arbustos. Desde él puede ver a los patos y los peces en el estanque. Pero sobre todo le encanta el sonido del agua de la fuente.

Justo se acababa de sentar cuando escuchó una paloma gorjeando. Incluso los pájaros conocen ya a la señora Pilar y saben que siempre trae algo para ellos.

«¡Aquí estáis!», dijo la señora Pilar sonriendo y dejó una bolsa cerca del banco. Naturalmente hoy tampoco se había olvidado de traer algo a sus animales preferidos.

Translation

Relaxing in the park

“What a lovely day!”, said Pilar. “The sun is shining and the birds are singing. The weather is much too nice to stay inside.”

Pilar is retired and lives in the big city of Madrid. Her flat is on a main road in the city centre, but she would prefer to live in a place that’s not so anonymous. Near to where she lives is the Parque del Retiro and Pilar always goes there when the weather is good.

At the park there is always something going on. There are runners, cyclists, people walking their dogs or families with children playing on the grass. As Pilar is very extroverted, she always gets to know new people and meets with old friends who she can chat to.

Along the paths there are benches for sitting. Some are in the sun and others are in the shade of the trees. As today isn’t too hot, Pilar has sat on a bench between two bushes. From here, she can watch the ducks and the fish in the pond. But above all she loves the sound of the water in the fountain.

She had just sat down when she heard a pigeon tweeting. Even the birds know Pilar, and they know that she always brings something for them.

“There you are!” said Pilar smiling, opening a bag near to the bench. Of course she would never forget to bring something for her favourite animals.
