Los desfiles de carnaval en España

Los desfiles de carnaval son en muchas regiones españolas un acontecimiento tradicional. Sobre todo los de Tenerife y Cádiz, que son incluso retransmitidos por televisión.

El carnaval de Santa Cruz de Tenerife es el más conocido en el mundo después del de Río de Janeiro y el evento más importante es la elección de la Reina del Carnaval. En las carrozas o a pie, los participantes pasan a lo largo de los espectadores que se amontonan al borde de la calle y se quedan fascinados con los maravillosos disfraces. Serpentinas y confeti vuelan por el aire y todo está decorado con guirnaldas.

El ambiente es genial: todo el mundo baila al ritmo de la música. Mucha gente se disfraza de payaso y lleva una narizota. Otros llevan puestos gorritos de fiesta muy divertidos y saludan con banderolas.

En Cádiz los desfiles de carnaval suelen ser muy largos y hay que ir con mucha antelación a la calle para poder tener un buen sitio como espectador. Al estar muchas horas en camino, es normal tener hambre. Pero esa necesidad está atendida: si se tiene hambre, se compra algo rápidamente en el chiringuito y se puede seguir festejando.

Spanish Carnival Parades

In many Spanish areas, carnival parades are a traditional event. The carnivals of Tenerife and Cádiz are even broadcast on TV.

After the Rio de Janeiro carnival, the Santa Cruz carnival in Tenerife is the most famous in the world. The most important event is the election of the Carnival Queen. On the floats or on foot, the contestants walk past the spectators who stand on the street, fascinated by their brilliant costumes. Streamers and confetti fly through the air and everything is decorated with bunting and garlands.

The atmosphere is great: everyone dances to the rhythm of the music. Lots of people dress up as clowns and wear a fake red nose. Others wear fun party hats and wave flags.

In Cádiz the carnival parades are usually very long and you have to go to the street very early to get a good place to watch. When waiting for hours on the street it’s normal to get hungry. But this need is catered for: if you’re hungry you can buy something at a food stand and quickly get back to partying.
