Come fruta con creatividad

Esta tarde celebramos el cumpleaños de mi hermana pequeña en el jardín. Toda la familia va a reunirse en nuestra casa y mi tía, Aurora, me ha pedido ayuda para preparar una rica ensalada de frutas.

—Para preparar la ensalada de frutas perfecta, hay que tener creatividad—, me dice mi tía Aurora. —Veamos, ¿qué tenemos encima de la mesa? Vaya, pues tenemos un montón de frutas ricas. ¿Por dónde quieres empezar, Guille?
—Pues a mí me gustan mucho las cerezas. Voy a lavarlas. Mientras, tú puedes partir la piña en rodajas.

¡Dicho y hecho! En seguida nos hemos puesto manos a la obra. Después de deshuesar las cerezas con ayuda de un cuchillo y de preparar la piña, he comenzado a quitar las pepitas de las uvas. Entretanto, mi tía Aurora ha pelado las manzanas. Preparar una ensalada de frutas es un trabajo muy minucioso para el que hay que tener mucha paciencia.

Una vez que hemos terminado con las cerezas, la piña, las manzanas y las uvas, nos ocupamos de la gran sandía que ocupa el centro de la mesa. Como es muy grande, mi tía Aurora se encarga de hacerla rodajas.
—Tía Aurora, ¿me das un trocito?
—¡Por supuesto! Hay suficiente para todos.

Es hora de añadir el plátano y las fresas. A continuación, exprimimos los limones y las naranjas y añadimos un poquito de canela.
—Y por último: ¡el coco!

—¡Qué buena idea! Esta va a ser la ensalada de frutas más rica del mundo.

Me he apuntado la receta en un cuaderno para hacerla otro día. ¡Tiene muy buena pinta!

Translation

Eat your fruit with a twist

This afternoon we’re celebrating my little sister’s birthday in the garden. The whole family is coming to our house and my aunt, Aurora, has asked me to help prepare a tasty fruit salad.

“To make a perfect fruit salad, you have to be creative,” aunt Aurora says to me. “Let’s see, what do we have on the table? We have loads of delicious fruit. Where do you want to start, Guille?”

“I like cherries. I’m going to wash them. Meanwhile you can cut the pineapple into rings.”

No sooner said than done! We get to work straight away. After pitting the cherries with a knife and preparing the pineapple, I start to deseed the grapes. Meanwhile, aunt Aurora peels the apples. Preparing a fruit salad is a painstaking job and you have to be very patient.

Once we’ve finished the cherries, the pineapple, the apples and grapes, we deal with the big watermelon that is in the middle of the table. As it’s so big, aunt Aurora takes care of slicing it.

“Aunt Aurora, can I have a slice?”

“Of course! There’s enough for everyone!”

It’s time to add the banana and the strawberries. After that, we squeeze over some lemon juice and some orange juice and add a little bit of cinnamon.

“And last but not least: coconut!”

“What a good idea! This is going to be the tastiest fruit salad in the world.”

I’ve written down the recipe in a notebook to make another day. It looks so good!
