The thief with a heart of gold
Hugo had a terrible day. After they had been for a lovely stroll in the park, his girlfriend, Catarina, broke up with him with no explanation. Feeling sad, he goes into his living room and turns on the lamp. But … it’s like being stabbed in the heart! Everything reminds him of Catarina: her books, her favourite lemon biscuits, her collection of china vases, the vanilla candle, and, of course, the photo of Catarina on the wall. It’s too much for him. He just wants to forget everything, so he falls onto the sofa, takes the remote control and turns on the TV. Then, he pours himself a glass of wine and starts to drink. Exhausted, he falls asleep in seconds.
Antonio, the local thief, has been watching Hugo through the window. Cautiously, he sneaks into the house, but accidentally bumps into a chair on his way in. Luckily, Hugo doesn’t notice and carries on snoring. Nothing can wake him. “Poor Hugo”, Antonio thinks to himself, and sits in the chair for a moment. He also pours himself a glass of wine and asks himself how he can help Hugo. Then, a brilliant idea comes to him: he will take Catarina’s things! That way, Hugo will forget about her in no time at all. What a heart of gold! He puts the glass of wine on the table and gets to work. When he has put everything in his bag, tiptoes out of the house.
